This week, representatives from Equatorial Guinea attended the 28th FAO Regional Conference for Africa in Tunisia to address issues of food security and the implementation of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP).

Equatorial Guinea was recognized as one of the two top contributors to the Food Aid Fund, which currently has forty million dollars to support projects in the Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mali and Niger.

Attendants included Ministers of Agriculture from participating countries, as well as senior officials and representatives of civil society and development partners, to improve the sustainability of agriculture, fisheries, livestock and forestry as a source of employment and income for those working in food security and nutrition.

Recently, the FAO has reported an improvement in the production of staple crops, a variety of bananas and a higher yielding maize. However, the agency said that it is insufficient to meet the demands of a growing population and climate change.

Equatorial Guinea’s contribution to the fund is reflective of its dedication to the growth of the region and the improvement of quality of life for all Africans.
