The Republic of Equatorial Guinea, through its Minister for Transport, the Postal Service, and Telecommunications, created a National Emergency Plan to Fight Oil Spillages in the Marine Environment during a three-day workshop focused on energy and environmental issues.

Equatorial Guinea highlighted the Plan will bring about fair and equal economic order for ocean spaces, as well as the importance of international cooperation in regards to pollution produced by hydrocarbons.

Equatorial Guinea, in partnership with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA), examined the legal aspects regarding implementation of the Plan, designed the authority for preparation of operational response capability, formulated international cooperation and mutual aid, and outlined the national system for preparation and response to incidents.

The President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, HE Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, has highlighted the importance of collective action against climate change, as well as sustainable development for African countries in regards to the environment and agriculture.

Equatorial Guinea is strongly committed to sustainable development in Africa. Equatorial Guinea has highlighted the importance of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) at the Development Bank of Central African States (BDEAC), forest conservation, and the environment as part of the creation and implementation of its sustainable economic development model for the reduction of poverty.

In addition to the fight against climate change, Equatorial Guinea works closely with numerous international organizations on a number of development projects, including the eradication of hunger in Africa by 2025, in line with the country’s Sustainable Development Goals under the Horizon 2020 program.
