The Republic of Equatorial Guinea is active at the 61stmeeting of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) Commission for Africa and called for the development of sustainable eco-tourism in Africa.
The Commission focused on the current opportunities, exchange of data, and development of framework of effective policy for the development of tourism operations in Africa.
Equatorial Guinea has a robust tourism sector and has hosted international conferences, delegations, and sporting events at its world-class facilities. The expansion of tourism opportunities in Equatorial Guinea will further expand the large sector.
Equatorial Guinea was elected to the Executive Board of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 2017.
The sustainable development of the tourism sector is in line with Equatorial Guinea’s Horizon 2020 development program goals. Equatorial Guinea is focused on the training and empowerment of the private sector in mining, fisheries, tourism, agriculture, telecommunications, health, and financial services.
In line with the Goals, Equatorial Guinea has made great strides over the years, including major reductions in the risk of maternal and infant mortality; free health service and drugs for youth and the elderly; the development of agriculture and hydrocarbons to create more jobs; the implementation of progressive gender equality policies; and electricity and sanitation for all citizens.
