Equatorial Guinea Strengthens Relations with UNESCO

The Republic of Equatorial Guinea, through its Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Simeón Oyono Esono Angüe, the Minister for Education, Jesús Engonga Ndong, and the Director General for International Cooperation, Bienvenido Osa Micha, strengthened relations with the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO).

The Minister, meeting with the General Secretary of the National Commission for UNESCO, Santiago Bivini, signed an agreement on areas of mutual cooperation and highlighted the importance of the UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea awards.

Equatorial Guinea has a long history of promoting and investing in education, including the achievement of key milestones in literacy, improvement of education for all Equatoguineans by all international standards, as well as the recent recognition by the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea of the UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea International Prizes for Research in Life Sciences.


Equatorial Guinea is a member of numerous multilateral organizations as part of its commitment to peaceful development. Their key partners include the United Nations (UN) agencies, programs and funds, the African Union (AU), European Union (EU), Arab League (AL), Organization of American States (OAS), Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), African Development Bank (AfDB), Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), Development Bank of Central African States (BDEAC), Central Bank of Central African States (BEAC), Africa, Caribeean, and Pacific (ACP) Group of States, and the Comunidade dos Paises de Lingua Portuguesa (CPLP) (associate).
