Equatorial Guinea Leads United Nations Security Council Sanctions Mission

The Republic of Equatorial Guinea, through its Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Anatolio Ndong Mba, led the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee mission to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.

Equatorial Guinea, along with other Security Council members from the United Kingdom, China, Russia, and the Ivory Coast as part of the Security Council Affairs Division (SCAD), met with senior officials in Guinea-Bissau, political party representatives, members of civil society, and international partners.

The delegation analyzed and monitored sanctions measures, gathered facts and information, and will draft reports on their substantive findings.

SCAD assists the Security Council in carrying out its critical responsibilities, including providing expertise regarding children and armed conflict, counter-terrorism, gender issues, humanitarian affairs, human rights, international law, sanctions, and non-proliferation.

Sanctions issues and human rights are Equatorial Guinea’s top priorities as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.


Equatorial Guinea is also focused on negotiations and dialogues for the peaceful resolution of armed conflicts; negotiations and dialogues on the reform of the Security Council; active participation in strategies to combat terrorism, illegal human trafficking, drug trafficking, organized and cross-border crime, endemic diseases and pandemics, extremism, xenophobia, racial discrimination and corruption; active defense of human rights; active participation in mitigating catastrophic effects of climate change; and active participation in the execution of the UN 2030 and African Union 2063 agendas, in parallel with their own Horizon 2020 national program.
