Equatorial Guinea President Strengthens Relations with United Arab Emirates

The President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, HE Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, strengthened relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during a recent visit by the Prince of Dubai, Sheik Ahmed Maktoum, to the country.

The President and Prince discussed areas of mutual cooperation, including the implementation of agreements such as the opening of the Afro-American International University of Djibloho.

The UAE also said it intends to invest in the field of electrical energy in Equatorial Guinea and the West Africa region.

Equatorial Guinea and the UAE enjoy strong bilateral relations and constantly collaborate on a broad range of mutual interests, including investment in agriculture, education, and energy.

Recently, the Vice President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, met with the Crown Prince of the UAE, Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum. Also recently, the Equatorial Guinea Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima, met with his counterpart from the UAE, HE Suhail Al Mazroui, and discussed the important role of Equatorial Guinea and other African nations in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and investment opportunities for the UAE and other Middle Eastern countries in Equatorial Guinea.

Equatorial Guinea hosted the IV Africa-Arab World Summit in 2016 at the Sipopo Conference Center in Malabo.


During the Summit, the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, HE Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, HE Agapito Mba Mokuy, called for continued close cooperation between African and Arab countries.
