The Vice President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, further strengthened the country’s aviation sector on a visit to the new international terminal of the Malabo Airport.

The terminal, on which construction began in 2015, is set to be completed in the coming months and will expand existing operations and capabilities at the airport. It will be capable of receiving much larger airplanes, including the Airbus 380, and more of them, six to eighteen aircraft during peak periods.

The new building will also include over six hundred parking spaces and a VIP area.

Equatorial Guinea has continually invested in its aviation and transportation sectors. The Government recently expanded air travel though the reduction of the cost of airline tickets, and has improved the national aviation services through personnel training through international and sub-regional forums, hosting the third African Summit on Air Safety and Navigation, and active participation before the ICAO in Montreal, Canada.

The Government has also extensively trained pilots, air traffic controllers, mechanics, technicians, and engineers, in addition to reforming the General Law on Civil Aviation, creating the Accident Investigation Commission, and implementing a national program for aviation operation security.
