The Republic of Equatorial Guinea, through its Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, officially launched the Year of Energy initiative at the III annual Africa Oil and Power (AOP) conference.

The initiative is focused on finding a better way to boost African energy sectors through energy coalitions, regional government cooperation, and public-private funding mechanisms.

The AOP brings together high-level government officials, as well as public and private executives from Africa and all over the world.

Equatorial Guinea has a strong energy industry, and developed new investment opportunities at the II AOP conference, in addition to new partnerships with Cameroon.

Equatorial Guinea is a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and is Sub-Saharan Africa’s third-largest oil and gas producer.

In 2017, Equatorial Guinea invested its resources in key infrastructure works to spur the country’s economy, including a new headquarters for Exxon Mobil.
