Equatorial Guinea Calls for Higher International Cybersecurity Standards

The Republic of Equatorial Guinea, through its new Technologies Section Chief, called for higher international cybersecurity standards at the 1stAfrican Cybersecurity Forum.

Equatorial Guinea highlighted the need for international cooperation to combat cybercrimes across country borders and the creation of capacity development programs in Africa to allow judicial authorities to judge cybercrimes in the continent.

According to recent studies, African is one of the most exposed areas of the world to cyber criminals, given the rapid increase in digital connectivity without the appropriate policies and legislation needed to strengthen security. 

Equatorial Guinea has made great strides to further advance their telecommunications as an overall effort to promote socioeconomic development throughout the country and reach the Horizon 2020 sustainable development goals.

The Forum, held in Ethiopia, was organized by the African Union (AU), the European Union (EU), the European Council (EC), Interpol, and the United Nations Office for Combating Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
