The Ambassador Permanent Representative of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea to the United Nations, Anatolio Ndong Mba, met with the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, to discuss areas of cooperation between Equatorial Guinea and the international governing body.
Ndong Mba delivered a written message sent by the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, HE Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, to the Secretary General.
The Ambassador also informed the Secretary General of the current situation in Equatorial Guinea in regards to the recent coup attempt by mercenaries from other countries in the region.
Guterres confirmed the United Nations would be sending a special envoy to Equatorial Guinea to meet with government authorities and support Equatorial Guinea during this time.
Equatorial Guinea is active at the United Nations in regards to its work as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Equatorial Guinea met with the organizing committee of the UN Security Council to discuss areas of cooperation and operations.
Additionally, the Permanent Mission of Equatorial Guinea in New York hosted a coordination meeting to discuss the range of functions as a member of the UN Security Council, specifically the behavior of diplomatic personnel in the host country, the daily procedure in the framework of work activity, and the establishment of working groups.
Equatorial officially joined the UN Security Council in early January as a non-permanent member for the 2018-2019 term. The formalizing of Equatorial Guinea’s membership was the placement of the flag of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea in the hall of access to the Security Council by the Equatorial Guinea Ambassador.
