The Republic of Equatorial Guinea is active at the United Nations (UN) Security Council through its Permanent Representative and Ambassador, Anatolio Ndong Mba, as the intergovernmental body contends with the largest international issues. Equatorial Guinea called for mechanism for peace in the Middle East this week, as the Security Council debated the escalation of violence between Palestinians and Israelis in the region.

The Ambassador called for both parties to moderate their actions and refrain from further violence, which may further aggravate the situation. The Ambassador highlighted the support of the Government of Equatorial Guinea, led by the President, HE Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, to negotiate a lasting solution to the conflict.

The Ambassador also expressed Equatorial Guinea’s support for the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to prepare and hold presidential elections in December 2018 without disturbances and in line with the country’s Electoral Law.

The Ambassador particularly highlighted the importance of the UN and larger international community to ensure the disappearance of armed groups spreading violence across the Congo, and for the eradication of illegal trafficking of weapons and previous minerals.

Equatorial Guinea is an advocate for security in Central Africa, but also the African continent and the entire world.

The Ambassador also highlighted the importance of investment in vital infrastructures such as the distribution of water and food, access to education, health, employment, renewable energy, transport, and financial services against possible terrorist attacks.

Equatorial Guinea regards terrorism in all forms as one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, as is strongly committed to fighting it in Africa and internationally.
