The Republic of Equatorial Guinea called on its African counterparts to redouble their efforts to continue financing the African Solidarity Trust Fund, a financial tool designed to fight hunger, poverty, and increase food security, at the 30th Session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Regional Conference for Africa.

Equatorial Guinea is focused on the issue of food access and pervasive hunger in Africa and has pledged to aim to eradicate hunger on the African continent by 2025, in line with the country’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as the 2014 Malabo Declaration.

Equatorial Guinea highlighted the importance of food security on the African continent, the inclusion of sustainable biodiversity in agricultural production systems, the employment of young people in the agricultural sector, and the analysis of island states susceptible to the impacts of climate change.

Equatorial Guinea was represented at the Conference by the Ambassador of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea in Italy and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Rome, Cecilia Obono Ndong.

The Conference, which was attended by high-level government officials and ministers from a diverse set of African nations, was held in Khartoum, Sudan.

The FAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that leads international efforts to defeat hunger.
