The President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, HE Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, opened Equatorial Guinea’s first Mental Health Summit this week and highlight the country’s continued commitment to constant investment in the health sector to achieve “health for all.”

The President said the Summit provides the basis for “health for all,” which is the key mandate for the PDGE Government, and highlighted the importance of shared responsibility between Government health departments, public and private institutions, and families to contribute toward an effective multi-sector health strategy.

The Summit focused on the bases and recommendations regarding mental health, the training of professionals and assistants in psychological evolution, the incidence of affective expressions in patients with addictions, and the progressive evaluation of cognitive functions in long-term hospital patients.

The Summit included interventions by the Minister for Health and Social Welfare, the First Lady, and other high-level health officials from Government and civil society.

Equatorial Guinea continues to lead Africa in per capita health investment, and remains committed to providing all Equatoguineans with the best health services, through recent initiatives including the access to clean drinking water, polio vaccinations, and malaria prevention.

The Summit was held at the state-of-the-art international Sipopo Conference Center in Malabo.
