Equatorial Guinea Calls for Urgent Measures to Address Public Health Issues in Haiti at the United Nations Security Council

The Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Anatolio Ndong Mba, called for urgent measures to address the public health issues facing Haiti during a meeting focused on the Caribbean country at the UN Security Council.

The Ambassador highlighted the rising incidence of cholera in Haiti, and urged for a rapid response from the international community to prevent further loss of life.

Equatorial Guinea, a leader in Africa in per capita health investment, is committed to constant investment in the health sector to achieve “health for all,” a key mandate of the President of Equatorial Guinea, HE Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. Equatorial Guinea remains committed to providing all Equatoguineans with the best health services through recent initiatives including the access the clean drinking water, polio vaccinations, malaria prevention, and mental health support.

The Ambassador also praised the Haiti Government for its leadership during recent years when facing complicated political issues, as well as devastating natural disasters.

The meeting, which was attended by representatives of the fifteen member states of the Security Council, was led by Peru.

Equatorial Guinea is active at the UN and, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, has called for a peaceful resolution to the Yemen conflict, mechanisms for peace across the Middle East, the protection of vital infrastructure from terrorist attacks, and reaffirmed its commitment to arms non-proliferation.


Equatorial Guinea is focused on sustainable peace and development and has a long tradition of holding peace talks to mitigate conflicts in Africa.
