The Republic of Equatorial Guinea, through Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea to the United Nations (UN), Anatolio Ndong Mba, strongly condemned the use of chemical weapons which allegedly occurred last week in the Syria town of Duma.

Equatorial Guinea, an active member of the UN Security Council, categorically rejected the use of all chemical weapons, and declared that in no instance must the use of such weaponry go unpunished by the international community.

Equatorial Guinea also urgently called for a comprehensive and independent investigation of the incident by international courts under the standards of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

The Ambassador imparted the deep concern of the Government of Equatorial Guinea and the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, HE Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, over the use of chemical weapons.

Earlier in the week during a special session at the UN Security Council, Equatorial Guinea called for serious dialogue to end the war in Syria.

Equatorial Guinea is active at the UN and, as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, has called for a peaceful resolution to the Yemen conflict, mechanisms for peace in the Middle East, and protection of vital infrastructures against terrorist attacks.

Equatorial Guinea is committed to peaceful and sustainable development in the world.
