The Republic of Equatorial Guinea, through the Secretary of State, Charged with Forests and the Environment, Santiago Francisco Engonga, reiterated its commitment to the sustainability of forests and cities in the ongoing fight against climate change in a meeting with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN).

The Equatorial Guinea Ministry for Agriculture, Livestock, Forests, and the Environment released the details for the National Investment Plan REDD+, which outlines the country’s commitment to the fight against climate change.

The Secretary of State highlighted the importance of forest conservation and the environment, as well as Equatorial Guinea’s creation and implementation of its sustainable economic development model for the reduction of poverty.

The FAO praised Equatorial Guinea for the strengthening of its economy in a sustainable manner, the value of the Equatoguinean forest for the health of the planet, and the political, economic, and social action led by the Ministry.

The FAO also thanked the Government of Equatorial Guinea for its support and trust placed in the UN organization as a key development partner.

Equatorial Guinea works closely with the FAO on a number of development projects, including the eradication of hunger in Africa by 2025, in line with the country’s Sustainable Development Goals under the Horizon 2020 program.

The FAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that leads international efforts to defeat hunger.
