Equatorial Guinea President Receives Praise from United Nations for National Political Dialogue

The President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, HE Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, received high praise from the Special Representative of the General Secretary of the Regional Office of the United Nations in Central Africa (UNOCA), François Lounceny Fall, for Equatorial Guinea’s VI Table for National Political Dialogue.

The President recently expanded Equatorial Guinea’s democratic process with the hosting of the National Political Dialogue, which brought together leaders from constitutional bodies, members of Government and political parties, and representatives from international institutions.

The President promised economic support to any Equatoguinean living overseas who wishes to take part in the Dialogue, and called for a legislation solution to integrate political activists who currently live outside the country.

The President approved legislation for the Center Right Union and the Independent Candidacy parties, which later became Citizens for Innovation, bringing the total number of political parties in Equatorial Guinea to eighteen.

The President also highlighted the importance of human rights, a democratic process, economic equality, and national unity as elements which contribute toward the progress of Equatorial Guinea.

Equatorial Guinea has made great strides over the years in line with the country’s Horizon 2020 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including major reductions in the risk of maternal and infant mortality; free health service and drugs for youth and the elderly; the development of agriculture and hydrocarbons to create more jobs; the implementation of progressive gender equality policies; and electricity and sanitation for all citizens.
