Equatorial Guinea Delegation Kicks Off High-Level Meetings at United Nations General Assembly

The Republic of Equatorial Guinea announced today a delegation of senior government officials, including President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, attended a series of meetings in anticipation of the 73rdsession of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City which began on September 25.

President Obiang and the Equatoguinean delegation attended a senior level meeting on Global Action on the Problem of Drugs on September 24. The senior level meeting was called by the President of the United States Donald Trump and accompanied by various political figures. A total of 124 countries, including Equatorial Guinea, are signed to the call of Global Action and additional signatories are expected.

“As a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, Equatorial Guinea is pleased to take part in meetings of bilateral summits on peace, security and armed conflict during our visit to this year’s General Assembly,” said Ambassador Anatolio Ndong Mba, Permanent Representative of Equatorial Guinea to the United Nations . “We are honored to join the various nations, and aligned with the UN General Secretary’s remarks, in the global call for immediate action to address the challenges we face today on addiction and drug trafficking.”

Following the senior level meeting, President Obiang headed a courtesy meeting with the United Nations General Secretary António Guterres and signed the United Nations visitors book for 2018.

The Equatoguinean delegation arrived in New York City the morning of September 22 and was welcomed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Simeón Oyono Esono, the Ambassador Representative from the Equatorial Guinea Permanent Mission before the United Nations Anatolio Ndong Mba, among other senior officials.

Prior to their departure from Equatorial Guinea to visit the United States, President Obiang looked into the work of refurbishment and preparation of the presidential pavilion at Malabo Airport in anticipation of the 50thAnniversary of Independence of Equatorial Guinea on October 12. The Malabo Airport will be the first stop for guests arriving in the next few days in the capital for the celebration. President Obiang was joined by Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, Prime Minister Francisco Pascual Obama Asue, among other senior government officials.
