The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea to the Office of the United Nations in Geneva, led by Ambassador and Permanent Representative Lázaro Ekua Avomo, highlighted the importance of the family as a vehicle to eliminate poverty, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals at the annual World Forum on Family Policies.

The Forum focused on Article 16 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states, “The family is the natural and fundamental element of society and has the right to the protection of society and the State.”

Equatorial Guinea also discussed the family as the fundamental unit of society; opportunities and challenges for the family; the family and protection of children; the family and human sexuality; sexual and reproductive rights; protection of the family; and strategies and tools for negotiations.

Equatorial Guinea joined over 80 United Nations diplomats and experts from New York and Geneva, as well as high-level government representatives.

The Forum, which was organized by Family Watch International, the United Nations Rights Caucus, and the Foundation for African Culture and Heritage, was held in Phoenix, Arizona.

Family Watch International is an international non-profit educational organization that works in partnership with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. It works to protect and promote the family as a fundamental unit of society at the international, national, and local levels through education, the defense of the family, and family humanitarian assistance.
