The Republic of Equatorial Guinea, through the Third Deputy Prime Minister of the Government and Human Rights Officer, Alfonso Nsue Mokuy, highlighted the country’s human rights accomplishments at the United Nations (UN).
Equatorial Guinea detailed significant progress based on the Government’s guarantee to promote and defend human rights, including the temporary amnesty against the death penalty, the plan of action to combat human trafficking, the implementation of the Children’s Parliament, the improvement of education for all Equatorial Guineans, and the complete abolition of child labor.
Equatorial Guinea also listed the international conventions the country has ratified, as well as those which are currently under review in the bicameral Parliament for approval.
Equatorial Guinea strongly urged all UN member states to prohibit the sale of arms to mercenaries and other organizations who are considered human rights violators.
Equatorial Guinea is active at the UN and, as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, has called for a resolution to the crisis in Syria, mechanisms for peace in the Middle East, and protection of vital infrastructures against terrorist attacks.
Equatorial Guinea is strongly committed to eradicating terrorism and human rights violations, and is an advocate for peace and security in Africa and internationally.
